The History of Howard Wood Elementary School

Opened in 1954. (6.75 acres bought in 1951 for $20,000). Construction cost: $533,000. Tilt-up construction, 36,957 sq. ft., 11 buildings, 27 classrooms. Named after Dr. Howard Wood, president of the first school board. Serves southeast Torrance. Mascot: Woodchuck.
